Phonon-induced emergent charge density wave in cuprates

In this talk, I will discuss about our recent work on the emergence of incommensurate charge order in underdoped YBa2Cu3O6+x. We find that the lattice motions of the oxygen atoms, belonging to the CuO2planes of an YBCO unit cell, cooperate with the correlated electrons in delicate fashion to trigger a lattice instability which qualitatively agrees with the experimental observations. We show that the specific structure of the electron-lattice coupling plays an important role to select an uni-axial wave-vector for the corresponding charge modulation. As a consequence, we further observe that the cooperating phonons frequency drops in order to achieve the charge order transition.
